This book began as a joint project between the nine members of Creative Photographers in Cheltenham (CPiC) , who exhibit collectively and individually, and Poetry Factory, a group of poets based in Gloucestershire who regularly hold workshops and perform together. Using keyword spurs, the poets and photographers produced work independently, which they then shared and used as the starting point for further images and poems. The project was not strictly ekphrastic, that is to say that the poets were not only working in the tradition of writing about visual art: sometimes they wrote without having seen an image, for example. At the same time the photographers also felt that their work should not just be an illustration of the texts produced, but should be free to respond in unexpected ways to their own experience of reading a poem.
